The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein

About the book.

The Moon has become a place of exile, home to prisoners and settlers living under the control of Earth's authorities. Far from Earth, the people of the lunar colonies have developed their own society and have little desire to remain under outside control.

Manuel Garcia O'Kelly-Davis, a computer technician living on the Moon, becomes involved in a growing movement for independence. Alongside unlikely allies, he finds himself helping to organise a rebellion against the powerful authority that controls the colony.

At the heart of the story is Mike, an unusually advanced artificial intelligence that has quietly become self-aware. What begins as a technical relationship develops into something far more important as the characters attempt to change the future of the Moon.

What to expect.

The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress combines artificial intelligence, computers, political rebellion and futuristic technology with a story about freedom and independence.

If you enjoy the conflicts between corporations, governments and individuals in Cyberpunk 2077, you'll find a different kind of dystopian struggle here. Instead of fighting for survival in Night City, the characters are fighting to decide who gets to control their own future.
