About the book

Deep beneath the surface of the Earth lies the city of Ember, a vast underground settlement built to protect humanity from an unknown disaster. For generations, its people have lived beneath the artificial lights of the city, believing that Ember is the only place left in the world.

But Ember is beginning to fail. The lights are becoming less reliable, supplies are running out and nobody seems to know how to escape. When Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow discover a mysterious message, they begin searching for clues that could reveal the truth about their city and what lies beyond it.
